About the research group
The data economy is the business of today and the future, regardless of the size of the company or the industry. Data sharing practices, ethical choices and sustainability are based on EU-level policies and locally best ecosystems. The aim of the data economy research group is to increase the knowledge and competence of companies and organisations in the region about the data economy and its utilisation. We help to identify the opportunities offered by the data economy. We collaborate with companies and the public sector to support economically, ecologically and socially sustainable income streams from data.
By leveraging the data economy competence cluster, we will increase knowledge and skills about the business models and innovations of the data economy, and we will carry out agile experiments in the implementation of operating models and innovations in our region. We develop in-depth expertise in the technical business environment of the data economy and its implementation, which includes, among other things, data infrastructures, data spaces, intermediary services and smart contracts.
Our Network
Our research group works in close cooperation with other research groups, especially with regard to responsible business development and the Artificial Intelligence Spearhead Research Group. In the future, we will invest heavily in projects related to the data economy, and our goal is to be attached to the EU’s key projects in the data economy by 2029.
We network nationally and internationally to bring the latest information and expertise from the field of data economy to our region, and we follow the development of the sector and regulation. We are a member of the Data Spaces Alliance, which aims to accelerate and promote Finnish data space projects to grow the data economy in Finland.

Datatalouskasvattamo
The project’s mission is to create a national data economy cluster for agricultural data economy through a collaboration of RDI actors. This will modernize rural economy and accelerate the adoption of digital and innovative solutions. The data economy incubator and its networks will generate new business, especially for SMEs in the sector (including farms and micro-enterprises).
